The Power of Compassion

Where is compassion in today's church?

The Power of Compassion

One of the biggest problems that we have in the world today is a lack of feeling. Somehow, we have become disconnected from the unity that we share through in our humanity and in our spirituality. Together as the Body of Christ, we form a living breathing unit that is able to touch, heal and solve the pain of the human condition through the Word of God. Instead we are becoming is jointed and ineffective.

29And Jesus went on from there and passed along the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Then He went up into the hills and kept sitting there.

The compassion of Jesus reached out, while he was yet still. His compassion drew the needy like a magnet. I can imagine the people crying, "I must get to Him. I cannot let anything hinder me." Did they want to come to Him for the answers that He surely possessed, or was it more than that?

30And a great multitude came to Him, bringing with them the lame, the maimed, the blind, the dumb, and many others, and they put them down at His feet; and He cured them,
31So that the crowd was amazed when they saw the dumb speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they recognized and praised and thanked and glorified the God of Israel.

They put the lame, the maimed, the blind, the dumb, and many others, down at His feet. What a magnificent scene. The name of our ministry is At His Feet. As we place ourselves at His feet, He reaches down with loving compassion, kneels to meet us where we are and as we lay motionless and expecting, He cures us. No questions asked.

32Then Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, I have pity and sympathy and am deeply moved for the crowd, because they have been with Me now three days and they have nothing [at all left] to eat; and I am not willing to send them away hungry, lest they faint or become exhausted on the way.

"I am not willing to send them away hungry". Compassion defies personal comfort and personal will. If the people had been there so had Jesus! If they were without food, so was He. If it were possible for them to become faint and exhausted, it was also possible for Him. Compassion looks on the needs of others and searches for a supernatural solution.

We have many talented people in our small congregation. Recently, the Lord spoke to us about "revenue streams" for financial blessing. Each member wrote down their strengths and abilities (cosmetologists, working with youth, fashion design, store owners, computer repair, trainer, etc.) and we prayed. Miraculously, the Lord began to open doors! Opportunities for each person to do what they loved opened up. Opportunities for monies to come in from other sources were coming in. This happened in a manner of weeks, not months or years. We as Pastors had compassion on our congregation's financial strains and God provided supernatural solutions

33And the disciples said to Him, Where are we to get bread sufficient to feed so great a crowd in this isolated and desert place?

The disciples were not compassionate and were looking only with their natural eye.

34And Jesus asked them, How many loaves of bread do you have? They replied, Seven, and a few small fish.
35And ordering the crowd to recline on the ground,
36He took the seven loaves and the fish, and when He had given thanks, He broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
37And they all ate and were satisfied. And they gathered up seven [large provision] baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over.

Imagine the joy of the people! Fellowshipping with each other and sharing stories about what God had done in their lives. This was NOT a solemn feast. Jesus, having poured forth compassion in a prayer to His Father on behalf of the people, was now satisfied because they were satisfied. Are you satisfied with where you are in life? No?, then God is not through blessing you, Glory!

38Those who ate were 4,000 men, not including the women and the children.
39Then He dismissed the crowds, got into the boat, and went to the district of Magadan.

In another Gospel we see that Jesus sent the disciples away first and then He personally dismissed the crowd. Jesus waited to see that they were all safely on their way before He got into the boat and went on His way.

Beloved, please get a picture today of the awesome power of compassion. Pastors are responsible to pour compassion out upon the flock as Jesus did with the multitude. Do not become disheartened by an unapproachable Pastor. Search until you find one with God's heart who is still as touchable as Jesus.

Love,
